foundry shop:

:                                                                                  A foundry is a factory that produces metal castings. Metals are cast into shapes by melting them into a liquid, pouring the metal into a mold, and removing the mold material after the metal has solidified as it cools. The most common metals processed are aluminum and cast iron.

Sand used in the foundry shop

The foundry sand is the major and the important part of the foundry shop. It is very important for the making of the pattren. And the pattren is vital for the making of the parts of the machine and for the production of the required work peice.

There are the thee main types of the foundry shop which are given below:

Green sand:

Greensand or green sand is a sand or sandstone which has a greenish color. This term is specifically applied to shallow marine sediment that contains noticeable quantities of rounded greenish grain. Greensand or green sand is a sand or sandstone which has a greenish color. Water glass sand:

Water glass is sold as solid lumps or powders or as a clear, syrupy liquid. It is used as a convenient source of sodium for many industrial products, as a builder in laundry detergents, as a binder and adhesive, as a flocculant in water-treatment plants, and in many other applications.

Resin sand:

Resin sand is a type of quartz sand that is mixed with a resin material. The chemical reaction created by the resin helps to bind and stiffen the quartz sand to make solid, hard and strong molds. The resin sand can be used to create just a part of the mold, or the entire mold material.

Pattren:

A pattern is a regularity in the world, in human-made design, or in abstract ideas. As such, the elements of a pattern repeat in a predictable manner. A geometric pattern is a kind of pattern formed of geometric shapes and typically repeated like a wallpaper design.

Types of the pattren:

There are the many types of the pattren but the seven main types of the pattren which are given below:

Single peice pattren:

A single-piece pattern is a complete pattern representing the entire object to be cast. It is simple in design and suitable for small and straightforward castings. Single-piece patterns are cost-effective and easy to manufacture.

Split pattren:

Split pattern   consists of two pieces; one half of the pattern rests in the drag (lower part of the moulding box) and the other half in the cope (upper part of the moulding box). The split patterns are commonly used for the casting of steam valve bodies, small pulleys, wheels and cylinders etc.

Sweep PATTREN:

Sweep patterns is used for rotational uniform casting. Sweep pattern consist of a board having profile of desired mold, which revolve throughout spindle. Sweep pattren is the type of the pattren

Skeleton pattren:

The skeleton pattern is large and is an excellent choice for castings with a simple shape and size. They consist of strips and frames made of wood. The mould is properly filled, and the excess sand is removed. The pattern is made of two sections and assembled with screws or glues to produce round shapes.

Multi-peice pattren:

A multiple-piece pattern is a pattern that rests in the cope, cheek and drag part of the mould to create a mould cavity for making complex intricate shape casting that cannot be produced using a solid piece pattern and split-piece pattern in the sand casting process.
